International Poster Tour: ON THE WATERFRONT (dir. Elia Kazan) 1954

“Hey, you wanna hear my philosophy of life? Do it to him before he does it to you.”

can’t say i’m surprised that On the Waterfront is sick with amazing promo art, given that it’s a perfect storm of iconic performances and epoch-defining mood. methinks the film arrived a bit too soon to receive a gloriously twisted Polish one-sheet, but those painterly French posters are all killer. and while i’m not usually gaga for the whole Mondo milieu, that Olly Moss job from 2010’s Alamo Drafthouse Rolling Roadshow is a doozy.

Criterion will release On the Waterfront on 2/19/2013.
